Fabric Guide
A closer look at Piacenza Dunes, a collection of suit fabrics woven from 100% baby camel hair.

The short answer
Piacenza Dunes is a worsted suiting collection woven from 100% baby camel hair — the first fleece of young Bactrian camels raised in the Gobi Desert. The fibre is naturally hollow, so it regulates temperature; it also holds a warm, creamy undertone that gives every shade, even navy, a depth wool cannot reproduce. Available in plains, herringbones and solaros.
If you’re considering a suit made from 100% baby camel hair, chances are you’ve already experienced some of the world’s finest fabrics. You may already own one of Piacenza’s exceptional fabrics — Alashan Breeze or Alashan Twill. If so, you’ll know the mill has a remarkable ability to turn some of nature’s finest fibres into elegant suit fabrics.
Woven from 100% baby camel hair, it is a collection created for those who appreciate exceptional natural fibres and enjoy discovering fabrics that few people — even within bespoke tailoring — have ever encountered.
Why are baby camel hair suits so rare?
A 100% baby camel hair suit is exceptionally rare. The reason lies in the fibre itself.
To produce a refined worsted suiting fabric, the fibres must be fine, long and uniform. Wool naturally lends itself to this. Camel hair generally does not, as the fibres are typically coarser.
The only way to produce a true worsted suiting fabric from camel hair is to begin with an exceptionally fine raw material. That raw material is baby camel hair.
Piacenza Dunes is woven from the first fleece of young Bactrian camels raised in the Gobi Desert. This first fleece produces fibres considerably finer than those of mature animals, making them suitable for elegant suiting while preserving the distinctive character of camel hair.
The result is something rarely seen in tailoring: a worsted suit fabric woven entirely from 100% baby camel hair.
Naturally comfortable
One of the most fascinating characteristics of baby camel hair is something you can’t see. Unlike wool, whose fibres are solid, camel hair fibres are naturally hollow.
These microscopic air pockets help regulate body temperature by trapping insulating air while allowing heat and moisture to move through the fabric.
Combined with its beautiful drape, the result is a suit fabric that feels remarkably comfortable across a range of temperatures — as enjoyable to wear as it is distinctive.
Colours inspired by the desert
One of the defining characteristics of baby camel hair is the way it takes colour.
Unlike wool or cashmere, baby camel hair does not absorb dye in quite the same way. Even darker shades retain the fibre’s naturally warm, creamy undertone, giving every colour a distinctive depth and softness. A navy, for example, isn’t a deep, inky blue — it carries a subtle warmth unique to camel hair.
Inspired by the sand dunes of the Gobi Desert, the Dunes collection is available in elegant plain fabrics, distinctive herringbones and beautiful solaros. The result is a palette that feels warm, natural and unmistakably true to baby camel hair.
Piacenza and noble fibres
For generations, Piacenza has been recognised for its expertise in working with noble fibres.
From cashmere to vicuña to baby camel hair, the mill has earned a reputation for transforming some of the world’s rarest natural fibres into exceptional fabrics. Dunes is a natural extension of that expertise.
Who is Piacenza Dunes for?
Probably not someone commissioning their first bespoke suit. Dunes is for the enthusiast.
For the person who already appreciates exceptional fabrics and enjoys owning something genuinely uncommon.
For someone who understands that true luxury is about rarity, craftsmanship and the remarkable story behind the fabric itself.
