Fabric Guide

Not all Super 110’s are the same

The number is only part of the story.

The short answer

The Super number describes only the fineness of the wool fibre — not the wool’s origin, the spinning, the weaving or the finishing. Two Super 110’s can feel completely different. When in doubt, go with VBC or Cerruti wool fabrics.

You’ll see Super 110’s, Super 130’s, Super 150’s and higher on fabric books everywhere.

But the Super number only tells you about the fineness of the wool fibre. It doesn’t tell you where the wool comes from, how the yarn is spun, how the fabric is woven or how it is finished.

That’s why two Super 110’s fabrics can feel completely different. One can have a beautiful hand and natural drape, while another can feel noticeably stiffer.

The mill matters

This is where the expertise of the mill really shows.

VBC Super 110’s and Super 150’s are the gold standard in wool fabrics. The quality isn’t simply about the Super number. It is what VBC does with the fibre that makes the difference.

Cerruti Super 130’s and Super 150’s are exceptional as well.

So when you’re looking through fabric books, don’t get distracted by the Super number alone.

When in doubt, go with VBC or Cerruti for wool fabrics.
